SALMON & TROUT
ROD FEES 2002
A state licence is
required to fish for salmon and sea trout. It is possible to buy a National licence or a Regional
Licence. A National Licence covers all Fishery Board Districts
while a Regional Licence covers only the Fishery District in
which the licence is purchased, in this case the Shannon Region. Costs for a National Licence is
currently €31 per Annum, or €12 for a 21 Day. Reductions are
available for juveniles under 18 years. In addition an ESB permit is required to
fish for salmon and trout on the lower River Shannon and its tributaries as set
out below.

The principal salmon angling
waters controlled by the ESB are the Rivers Mulcair and the main Shannon at
Parteen (immediately above Limerick) and Castleconnell.

TROUT FISHING ESB WATERS
Trout fishing is available on the
Mulcair and Newport Rivers and also on the Shannon from the mouth of the Mulcair

those brown trout fisheries managed by the Shannon Regional
Fisheries Board. The rates are set below.

The
bearer ( name and address ) of a permit holder as entered on a
permit authorises that person to fish for brown/rainbow trout and
coarse fish in the Central Fisheries Board leased fisheries
during the period specified on the permit and are subject to the
regulations pertaining on that fishery. Set out below are a list
of such managed fisheries where a permit applies.

All angling waters have there own
regulations and anglers are advised to use the information provided on the
relevant web pages describing those fisheries. Anglers should acquaint
themselves with these regulations and any Bye Laws which pertain
When fishing avoid
breaking down fences, walking through crops and leaving
litter on banks.
Wear a life jacket
on or near water
Be courteous and
considerate to fisheries Board staff. Remember they are
doing the job which you expect from them, looking after
your interests and protecting the water you are fishing.

violating Fishery Regulations
Share Certificates
It is compulsory to purchase a Share Certificate from the North Shannon Development Co-Operative Society
to fish the Upper Shannon and tributaries located upstream of Banagher
Bridge on the Shannon in Co Offaly. The fee is voluntary to fish all fisheries
on the Shannon downstream of Banagher Bridge. The Share Certificate is not
administered by the ShRFB but can be
purchased from most of the larger tackle dealers which are advertised on
this site.
