SALMON & TROUT ROD FEES 2002

A state licence is required to fish for salmon and sea trout. It is possible to buy a National licence or a Regional Licence. A National Licence covers all Fishery Board Districts while a Regional Licence covers only the Fishery District in which the licence is purchased, in this case the Shannon Region. Costs for a National Licence is currently €31 per Annum, or €12 for a 21 Day. Reductions are available for juveniles under 18 years. In addition an ESB permit is required to fish for salmon and trout on the lower River Shannon and its tributaries as set out below.

  • District only (Shannon Fisheries only)       €15.23

  • All District 21 day                                       €12.69

  • All District Annual – Juvenile                      €10.15   (under 18 years)

  • All District – 1 day                                       €3.80   (adult/juvenile)


CHARGES FOR ESB PERMITS 2002  SEASON

RIVER SHANNON BETWEEN PLASSEY & PARTEEN

The principal salmon angling waters controlled by the ESB are the Rivers Mulcair and the main Shannon at Parteen (immediately above Limerick) and Castleconnell.

 Season 1st February to 30th September.

 Good spring fishing, chiefly spinning from the bank or from a boat.

Lower Shannon only                               

  • €25 Season

Mulcair/Lr Shannon 

  • €57 (Adult) – Season - Less €6 FOR 

Combined Member of Angling Club                               

  • €27 (Juvenile) – Season

  • €6   Daily 

  • €31 Weekly

TROUT FISHING ESB WATERS

Trout fishing is available on the Mulcair and Newport Rivers and also on the Shannon from the mouth of the Mulcair to Island Point and Thomond Bridge to Sarsfield Bridge.

Adult Season:                                          €8

Juvenile Season                                       €3

ESB Permits for salmon and trout angling may be purchased at any of the following outlets:

  • ESB Fisheries Office, Ardnacrusha, Near Limerick.

  • Angling Centre,  3 John St., Limerick.

  • Steves Shooting & Fishing Store, Denmark St., Limerick.

  • Bonds Tackle, 40 Wickham St., Limerick.

  • Kingfisher Angling Centre, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick

A separate boating permit is required to fish from a boat on the Lower Shannon.  This may be obtained from the ESB Fisheries Office Hydro Station, Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, Republic of Ireland, Tel:+353 61 345589, Fax: +353 61 344560 Email ESB Office Ardnacrusha to   ESB Fisheries Division 

CASTLECONNELL SALMON FISHERY, CO LIMERICK

This fishery is divided into eight beats.  Three rods may fish all beats at the same time.   • Beat 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 - €31 Per Rod Per Day  

  • Beat 8 - €38 Per Rod  Per Day

 16th May -15th  July 

  • Beat 1, 3, 4, 5, 6  & 7 –  €38 Per Rod Per Day

  • Beat 8 – ½ Day Bookings - €50 Per Rod.

16th  July -31st  July  

  • Beat 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 7    - €12 Per Rod Per Day 

  • Beat 8 – ½ Day - Bookings -   €12 Per Rod.                                             

1st August -31st August         

  • All Beats  €12 Per  Rod Per Day.

  • Beat 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 –  €31 Per Rod Per Day

MID & UPPER SHANNON & TRIBUTARIES

RATE: €19

REGULATIONS:

Anglers must be in compliance with the wild salmon carcass and log book scheme as introduced by the Dept of the Marine & Natural Resources on January 1st 2001.

PLEASE NOTE PRAWN AND SHRIMP IS PROHIBITED ON ALL ESB WATERS.

 STANDARD CONDITIONS APPLY AS PER ESB PERMIT.


TROUT PERMIT FEES 2002 -  MANAGED GAME FISHERIES

Anglers must be in compliance with the wild salmon carcass and log book scheme as introduced by the Dept of the Marine & Natural Resources on January 1st 2001.

A Shannon Board Permit is required on those brown trout fisheries managed by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board. The rates are set below.

NOTICE: The Board are currently revising new permit fee rates which will be posted here in due course.

The bearer ( name and address ) of a permit holder as entered on a permit authorises that person to fish for brown/rainbow trout and coarse fish in the Central Fisheries Board leased fisheries during the period specified on the permit and are subject to the regulations pertaining on that fishery.   • All angling waters have there own regulations and anglers are advised to use the information provided on the relevant web pages describing those fisheries. Anglers should acquaint themselves with these regulations and any Bye Laws which pertain

  • When fishing avoid breaking down fences, walking through crops and leaving litter on banks.

  • Wear a life jacket on or near water

  • Be courteous and considerate to fisheries Board staff. Remember they are doing the job which you expect from them, looking after your interests and protecting the water you are fishing.

  • Report any pollution and illegal activity to your local officer or report to the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board at 061 455171 / 455305

  • The Board reserves the right to refuse or revoke a Permit to anyone violating Fishery Regulations

Share Certificates

It is compulsory to purchase a Share Certificate from the North Shannon Development Co-Operative Society to fish  the Upper Shannon and tributaries located upstream of Banagher Bridge on the Shannon in Co Offaly. The fee is voluntary to fish all fisheries on the Shannon downstream of Banagher Bridge. The Share Certificate is not administered by the ShRFB but can be purchased from most of the larger tackle dealers which are advertised on this site.
