On 30th March 2001, Regulations were signed into law providing for the
extension of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act to Shannon Development.
The Act establishes three statutory rights -
- A right for each person to access information held by public bodies;
- A right for each person to have official information relating to
himself/herself amended where it is incomplete, incorrect or misleading;
- A right to obtain reasons for decisions affecting oneself.
The FOI Act allows public access to information held by Shannon
Development, to the greatest extent possible consistent with the public
interest and the right to privacy. The Act covers information that is not
routinely available through other sources. Access to information under the Act
is subject to certain exemptions and involves specific procedures and time
limits.
A reference manual has been prepared and published in accordance with the
requirements of Sections 15 and 16 of the Act. It outlines the Company's
structure and functions, the services it provides and how it applies them, the
classes of records held and guidelines on how to make a request for
information under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997. Copies of the Manual
