Lough Sheelin Office reports
35 trout averaging 2lbs - 3lbs were
returned There is not a lot of angling activity presently despite the
good water clarity. Those who are fishing are reporting some sizeable
fish. The most popular areas are around Church Island, Rusheen,
Sailors Garden, Orangefield and Chambers Bay
Weather
Quite warm pleasant temperatures for much of the week
has been replaced with fresher cooler conditions

Reported Fish 6lbs by Paddy Lyons LSTPA Cavan

O. Tormer had a trout of 2lbs

Paddy Lyons LSTPA Cavan had a trout
of 6lbs and 5 other fish averaging 2.5lbs to 3.5lbs

P. Mc Caul, Cavan had a trout of
4.5lbs

Northern Ireland angler had a fish
of 3.5lbs
Fly Hatches: Best
flies used were Green Peter, Murrough and a variety of other
sedges.

Lough Sheelin Office reports
Fishing was quite lively earlier in the week during
the periods of milder weather with most anglers catching fish. With
changing conditions fishing has got patchier.
Weather
At the time of writing weather is much fresher
with cooler conditions, forecast is for warmer, unsettled
weather to return.
Angling Returns

Anthony Baggot, Castlerea and
junior angler Raymond Burns from
Ballinlough had 9 fish for 2.75hours on Sunday evening on dabbler, all
released

On Saturday evening Denis Harding
from Belfast and son John had 4 fish, best 2.5lbs.
Fly Hatches: Sedges &
Olives and occasional sporadic hatches of Mayfly.
Prospects; If weather
gets milder again fishing should pick up, short rises in the
afternoons.

reports on Lough Owel
Weather: Mild earlier in the week but much
cooler and sometimes blustery since the weekend.
Best Reported Fish: A number of fish in the 3lb
bracket

Prospects: The Green Peter season has commenced
and should provide good fishing if conditions allow.

" Blustery north west winds made for difficult fishing but Sean
English & Fintan Cullen had a fish apiece (biggest 2.5lbs.) to green
peter with a couple of larger fish escaping the net. "

Castlepollard Tackle Shop Opens...
With angling growing more popular than ever, the demand for angling
outlets in smaller towns and villages is growing. Pat Smith of 6
Castlegrove, Castlepollard has recently opened a tackle shop. Pat is
involved in Lough Glore Angling Club and is a member of the defence
forces, based in column barracks Mullingar. Pat is wished all the
best from all the midland anglers and can be contacted at the above

Salmon Fishery
Anglers were scarce on Castleconnell Salmon Fishery
this week. Mr John Hedrington, Laois had 2 Grilse.
There was a total of 12 Grilse for the week
