Virginia Unveils New Standard-Issue License Plate
RICHMOND--- Virginia's standard issue license plate will have a new look beginning July 1, 2002. The new design recognizes the 400th anniversary of Virginia and the Jamestown settlement. These plates replace Virginia's "blue and white" standard-issue plate, which has been the standard for nearly 30 years.
The new plate design accommodates up to seven characters, enabling citizens to personalize their plates with a special message for $10 in addition to their vehicle registration fee. The new plates are available at any DMV customer service center and online at www.dmvnow.com. Citizens may voluntarily support the 400th anniversary commemoration with a $2 portion of their annual vehicle registration fee. Revenue raised will be dedicated to the Virginia 400th Anniversary Fund. The Fund supports educational and legacy programs across the state recognizing the Commonwealth's origins in 1607 when America's first permanent English colonists landed at Jamestown.
