Office of Inspector General
A Message From Clark Kent Ervin, Inspector General
Fall has been a busy time for the Office of Inspector General. In October, I personally led a team to South and Southeast Asia to inspect visa operations at several embassies. We will use the findings in our worldwide review of visa processing currently underway. In November, I led an OIG pre-inspection team to initiate our review of the United States Mission to the United Nations and the Office of Foreign Missions.
I invite you to review our September and October monthly reports for summaries of our recently completed work. In September, OIG issued inspection reports on eight embassies in Africa and Europe. The Office of Information Technology published a report on the Consular Affairs Information Security Program, and a congressionally mandated review of the information security program and practices of the Department. OIG's Office of Audits recently completed reviews of the Department's monitoring of contractor performance and a follow up review of awards to the Iraqi National Congress Support Foundation. In the area of international broadcasting, my office has completed an inspection of BBG's Regional Operations in West Africa, among other reviews. Finally, OIG published security oversight inspections of embassies in several countries in Africa and Asia, and reviewed security at the Department's Main Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Please note that due to the classified nature of our Security Oversight work, we are unable to provide summaries on our website. I welcome your comments and questions about our website and our work. And, I invite you to report to us any allegations of fraud, waste, and mismanagement regarding the Department or the BBG that may come to your attention by contacting the OIG Hotline at oighotline@state.gov. Alternatively, you can write to us at Office of Inspector General, HOTLINE, P.O. Box 9778, Arlington, VA 22219, or call at (800) 409-9926 or (202) 647-3320.
