Response to Attacks in Mombasa, Kenya and Beit Shean, Israel
Secretary Powell (Nov. 28): "We condemn in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist bombing earlier today in the Paradise Hotel near Mombasa Kenya that killed at least eleven and wounded dozens -- both Kenyans and Israelis. We also condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist shooting at a polling station in Beit Shean in which three Israelis were killed and many more injured." [full text]

Joint Press Conference in Mexico City
Secretary Powell (Nov. 26): "In Mexico, the Bush administration sees much more than a neighbor. We see a partner. Neighbors don't choose each other, but partners do. Our partnership rests on common values, on trust, on honesty, on hard work, and on a shared stake in the future."  [full text]

Joint U.S.-Russia Statement on Iraq
We call on Iraq, in strict compliance with UNSC resolution 1441, to cooperate fully and unconditionally in its disarmament obligations or face serious consequences. [full text]

Secretary Powell stopped at the embassy during his official visit to Mexico City on November 26 and posed with the childen who attend the embassy day care center. Called the "Little Amigos" center, this facility provides day care to the children of embassy officers and Foreign Service national employees.

Since 1975, more than 86,000 refugees from Latin American and the Caribbean have been offered resettlement in the U.S. including more than 50,000 from Cuba and a large number from Haiti, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. See the Refugee Admissions site for admissions from other areas of the world.
