What is credit card verification?
Credit card verification is one step that Yahoo! takes to help ensure a safe environment for auctions participants.

All bidders and sellers are required to provide a credit card to verify their identity before they can place bids or submit items on Yahoo! Auctions. If you don't have a credit card, you can complete the verification process using a debit or check card (with the Visa or MasterCard logo) to sign up for Yahoo! Wallet or Yahoo! PayDirect.

Sellers must verify their credit cards by signing up for a Yahoo! Wallet or Yahoo! PayDirect account. When you submit an auction, your account will be charged a listing fee. Your account will be billed on a monthly cycle for any fees accrued by charging the credit card stored in your Yahoo! Wallet. Learn more about listing fees.

Bidders have the option of signing up for Yahoo! Wallet or Yahoo! PayDirect. Yahoo! Auctions is free for bidders. You won't be charged a fee for bidding or for winning an auction. Bidders and sellers need to agree upon the method of payment.

Your credit card information is private and secure. Yahoo! takes your privacy concerns seriously. If you have questions about how your personal information is handled, please read the Yahoo! Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting:

  • Why do I get the error message "Invalid Credit Card"?

Yahoo! Auctions accepts four major credit cards. Please be sure that you are using a valid Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express card. When entering the card number, please do not include any dashes or spaces.

To verify that the credit card submitted is an active and valid account, a temporary $1 charge is placed on the account. This is for verification only and is removed before it is actually charged to your account. If your account denies the charge or doesn't have enough credit to cover the charge, verification won't be successful and you may receive the "Invalid Credit Card" error message.

  • I've completed credit card verification, but it keeps returning me to the registration screen. Help!

Once you've completed credit card verification, you're almost done with the registration process. Please return to the registration page to read and accept the Yahoo! Auctions Terms of Service. Once you have accepted the Terms of Service, you will be all set to bid and/or sell on Yahoo! Auctions.
