FISHERIES & ANGLING HIGHLIGHTS
TROUT FISHING ENDS FOR THE SEASON
WITH SOME NICE WILD SPECIMENS CAUGHT ON ENNELL
The fishing season ended on Saturday last the 12th October.
We would like to thank all those who contributed to this fishing
column over the past season. We look forward to getting you all on
board again for next year. Your contribution is hugely valued by us
and adds lots of interest to our readers which were well in
excess of 11,000 this year.
Contributors DON'T FORGET A PHOTO IS A THOUSAND WORDS,
so get in photos as well as your reports commencing every Monday
from mid February 2003 onwards, which we will publish week by week
from then on.
We will have a new photo gallery for 2002 very soon
which will capture many angling scenes over the season.

" Fished L Sheelin on Sunday 6th Oct. Caught a wild trout of about
1.75lb in Bog Bay and returned it alive. Saw plenty of trout rising
and good sedge hatch.

trout 3lb 10oz (photo below) green peter and muddler.
Remarks Rose 5
other fish including hooking another one on a pearly dabbler but
lost it at the net.

GORMANS DOUBLE DELIGHT
Santa came early for many anglers last Saturday. The end of the
season competition sponsored by outdoor pursuits was a huge success.
125 anglers fished their hearts out on Owel and Ennell last Saturday
12th Oct., and again Ennell produced the big trout. Brian and Jean
Conlon of outdoor pursuits really opened the goodie bag, in all at
least 12-15 prizes was presented. Local Mullingar angler Tom Gorman
had a super trout of 4.85lb to win the overall prize. Thomas Farrell
junior of Gainstown won the juvenile prize. The presentation was
held in Caffreys ,and also on the night Phil McMahon received the
Tommy McCormack perpetual cup for the heaviest weight of fish of
Lough Owel for the 2002 season.
The Roundup for the end of season Outdoor Pursuits competition was
Lough Ennell Result; 11 fish caught

1st Place: Mel Fitzpatrick, Dublin with a fish of
3.78lbs

2nd Place: Dinny O'Connell with a fish of 3.74lbs

3rd Place: Pat Kellahan Mullingar with a fish of 3.31lbs
Lough Owel Result: 13 fish caught

1st Place: Jinmmy Nally, Multifarnham with a fish of 1.73lbs

2nd Place: Paul Dunne Dublin with a fish of 1.67lbs

3rd Place; Tony Doherty. Clane with 1.66lbs
