What is ADSL?
ADSL is a high-speed service available through your existing
telephone lines (yes, this means you don't need to get a 2nd line
to use both the phone and the Internet!). It offers 'dedicated'
speeds up to 4 megabits per second - approximately 80 times faster
than a standard 56K modem and 150 times faster than a 28.8K modem.
How does it compare to "cable" internet access?
ADSL Connect and cable are both high-speed access connections. Cable
speed is relative to the number of users within a given area, while
ADSL is a "dedicated" speed, regardless of users. Both are excellent
technologies, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. For
real-world applications, both are more than fast enough when a high-speed
alternative is desired. We offer high speed Cable Internet service
to the Campbell
River area and encourage you to check into this excellent service
as well.
Who provides technical support?
Digital Ark provides all technical support for the product. Our
helpful and friendly local support team is here to provide assistance
when you need it.
Who performs the installation and configuration?
Digital Ark installs and configures your modem for you at your home
or office.
Do I need a second phone line for the connection?
No. Your phone line is configured and upgraded to be an ADSL-capable
line. Your phone number remains the same, but now you can surf the
Internet and use your telephone at the same time, with no effect
on voice quality and with an extremely fast connection to the Net.
Where is ADSL Connect available?
ADSL Connect is available in Nanaimo and Wellington, Parksville,
Comox and Courtenay, Willow Point, Merecroft and Campbell River
areas, with some exceptions. Your physical location and distance
from the nearest telephone company "switching centre" is the most
crucial factor, as well as that switching centre being ADSL-compatible.
Check our availability page
to determine if it can be provided in your area.
