We're pleased that you are thinking about becoming a Foreign Service Officer. In our fiscal Year 2002, the Department of State hired 465 Foreign Service Officers. Beginning October 1, 2002 through September 30, 2003, the Department plans to hire a total of 514 Foreign Service Officers. These hires will populate all five career tracks: Management/Administrative, Consular, Economic, Political and Public Diplomacy. This represents the largest number of Officers ever hired, and hiring at this level is anticipated to continue through 2004. Take the first step now toward becoming a Foreign Service Officer and register for the Foreign Service Written Exam.

Dates to Remember:
January 15, 2003 - Registration for the Foreign Sevice Exam is scheduled to open.
March 5, 2003 - Deadline to register for overseas test sites.
March 12, 2003 - Deadline to register for domestic test sites.
April 12, 2003 - The Foreign Service Written Exam Date

PLEASE NOTE: This is the only date the exam will be offered in 2003. An exam date has not yet been established for 2004.
