Mid Shannon Area

Mick Flanagan Angling Guide Mullingar Tel: 087 2797270: mick@midlandangling.com reports for the Midland Lakes and Rivers.

CLONDALKIN CARPENTER NAILS BIG PIKE ON DERRAVARAGH
Specimen hunters are starting their annual trips to the midland waters at the moment. These anglers are a breed of their own complete angling fanatics. The local lakes and rivers hold some huge pike, this time of year these fish will be a few kilo heavier than usual due to the spawning season. The most successful way of catching these monsters  is dead bait fishing. Over the next few weeks some super fish will be caught on local waters. I will try my best to keep you up to date on any specimens being caught  in the region.

15.2- 15.10- 25.4
The above heading may look like calendar  dates or a reading from the  gospel - these are the weight of three super pike caught on Derravaragh last week. The lucky angler was Noel Byrne a 36 year old carpenter from Clondalkin. Noel spends  a lot of his angling days in the Mullingar area. While talking to him last week about pike angling and fishing methods, his bait alarm started to bleep another fine pike of 14lbs was landed. This was one of the best chances to photograph 2 super Derravaragh pike. HAND IN  HAND Well done Noel its a pity it wasn't next month as you would have been in with a great chance for fish of the month which starts in February.
