| The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change |
|
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the United
Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization
(WMO) in 1988 to assess the scientific, technical and socio-economic information
relevant for the understanding of human induced climate change, its potential impacts
and options for mitigation and adaptation. The IPCC has completed three full assessment
reports, guidelines and methodologies, special reports and technical papers. For more

The IPCC comprises three Working Groups and the National Greenhouse Gas
Inventories Programme. The Working Groups (WG) are divided as:
- WG I - science
- WG II - impacts, adaptation and vulnerability
- WG III - mitigation
Each Working Group is headed by a developed nation and a developing nation
Co-chair as well as six Vice-chairs. The Working Groups also have a
Technical Support Unit each, based in the country of the developed nation
Co-chair.

The IPCC Working Group II Co-chairs are M. Parry (UK) and O. Canziani
(Argentina).
The IPCC Working Group II Technical Support Unit is now based at the Met
Office in the United Kingdom.
