The Big Bend

of Texas is so named by the huge northeast curve of the Rio Grande in the southwest corner of the state. It is one of the most remote and  wildly beautiful regions in the continental US.  It is a country overflowing with history,  mystery, and adventure; best described as many thousands of square miles of lofty peaks,  vast plains, and rugged canyons.   Over one million acres of publicly accessible wilderness vacation country attracts visitors from all over the world. Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and surrounding communities offer activities like hiking, camping, river running, horse riding, mountain bicycling, jeep touring, sightseeing, and simply experiencing a level of peace and quiet that is rarely found today.

According to Native American legend:

Big Bend is where water runs uphill, where rainbows wait for rain, and where the river lives in a big stone box.
