Dino Miranda holds up a 33 lbs. mahi out of a total of 58, we also had 10 shibi on this holoholo day
It was another day of 30 mph trades and we got a 5:00 start going to the X buoy. Have I ever mentioned how good the fishing can be just before a full moon, well here is the perfect example, one day before the full moon and it was going off at all the buoys. We got about 20 mahi at the X then went down to the J buoy and got another bag full of mahi and shibi, mostly all on bait of course. It was wild action. It was not uncommon to get 8 or 9 fish in one pass. As fast as Scot and Dino could get one fish in and get a bait on the hook and put it back out it would hook up another one, they were hungry. It ended up being a long day as we got back to the harbor at 7:30, that’s why we only have a photo of one nice fish, but you can see two of our three full bags of fish. Our total weight was around 1200 lbs. with 1000 of that in mahi. That is our most weight of mahi ever. One hell of a great day of fishing. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Scot, and Rusty Spencer, and Dino Miranda went holoholo and caught 16 mahi and 10 shebie for about 550 lbs of fish
On this windy day of 30 mph trades we left at 5:00 going to the J buoy. We were first and only boat to go to the buoy and took one mahi strike on our first pass. Then on to the light line and we got some aku and small ahi and ran 2 live aku. We saw a marlin looking at our aku once but it did not get interested enough to eat it. The mahi on the other hand did get interested and we would get one or two when they would show up behind the boat. The tuna were a bit hard to get to go at first, but they started to come up for the bait later in the day. There was never a dull moment, between hooking fish going down hill to the bucking bronco ride going back up to the buoy it was wild. We like it when it is rough like this, the fish bite good and we have the whole buoy to ourselves. It was worth it to not go ride our dirt bikes today. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Dennis Shrewsbury, Richard Flynn, Mike, and Delanie Snead, Gammall Perez, and John Allen caught 11 mahi one 20 lbs ahi and Mike got a 315 lbs marlin for a great day
We got a 5:30 AM start on this day of 30 mph trades going to the J buoy. We got one mahi on our first pass and 4 on the second pass. It was loaded with mahi. We caught a few aku and ran 2 as live bait. It wasn’t long before a marlin came behind us and took our aku and swallowed it deep. It never jumped as it ran out 300 yards of line. Mike then did a great Job of pulling her back to the boat in about 40 minutes, and she came up dead the way we like them to come to the boat. We pulled her in and went back to the buoy and started getting more mahis. We did one bait pass and got 3 mahi and one 20 lbs ahi. Then another marlin grabbed our aku but let it go, this buoy was hot. Then they wanted to go in early so we did. In the harbor I managed to get John to eat an eyeball pupu. These folks handled that rough ocean real well, good going guys. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Al, and Betsy Nobin, Paul Nobin, and Hall Danon had fun catching a lot of ahi.
We got underway at 5:55 going to the J buoy on this day of 25 mph trades. We were the 5th boat to the buoy so no trolling strikes for us. On the light line the small aku and ahi were hooking up every pass. Then Paul got the first bigger ahi on a worm, it was a nice 20 pounder. Then Al got one about 15 pounds on a clark spoon. All was going well until the porpoise showed up and spoiled the party. Scot put on a show by teasing them with saba right up to the back of the boat, where eventually they would take it from him and eat it. Since the big kids had taken over the pool we set up and trolled for home, on the way we hooked up another 20 pound ahi 3 miles from the harbor. On the pier when it was fish cutting time I could only get Hall to join me in an eyeball pupu. We also saw some whales coming in and some on the way out, soon they will be going back up north. A fun day with lots of fish. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Scot, Mark, Shelly, and Capt Rusty, went holoholo (anykind) and caught 16 mahi and a bunch of tunas
We got a 5:40 start to the LL buoy on this day of light easterly winds. We were first to the buoy and got mahi on each pass for the first 4 times by the buoy. Then we went to the light line and started getting 4-9 pound aku and ahi every time we went past the buoy, it kept us busy. Every once in a while a mahi or two would follow our live bait and Scot would bait them up. In the end we had almost a full bag, or about 400 pounds of fish. One heck of a nice day of fishing. Aloha Capt Rusty

The Lacanaria's, Laine, Dwayne, Chris, Cheyne, Christian, and Corey caught a lot of fish.
We got a 4:50 AM start to the LL buoy on this day of 10-20 east-south-east winds. We were the second boat to the buoy and took no strikes trolling, so we went to jigging the light line. That worked as it always does and we started catching not so small aku, some over 10 pounds. It took a while before we got one small enough to run as a live bait. Then Dwayne caught a nice 20 pound ahi on 50 pound test, that was a good fight. Next Chris hooked a mahi on a jig and reeled it in. Then we saw a mahi and Scot baited it up. The aku boat Neptune came again but the aku weren’t going for their jigs. We got some more mahi to make a total of 5. Then on the way home some whales put on a show for us. In the harbor it took bribery to get Corey to eat an eyeball, his dad Dwayne offered him 10 bucks to eat it and he did it, good man. It was a fun day of fishing for the whole family. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Deb Townsend, Scot, Mike Corell, Wendy Stevens, and Capt Rusty with one 669 marlin and 3 of our 6 mahi on one hell of a good day.
It was raining lightly when we left the harbor at 4:30 AM on this day of 10-20 mph south east winds headed for the LL buoy. By the time we were 10 miles from the buoy it was pouring rain constantly. Then as if we had planned it the rain stopped just as we got to the buoy. Our first pass we got a nice 20 pound mahi, second pass Deb caught a 30 pound bull mahi. Then we went to the light line and got some small aku and ahi, running 2 aku for live baits. The aku boat Neptune came to the buoy and was lifting small aku for awhile and then left. About this time we made our first pass baiting and Scot baited up 2 nice mahi, we saw more so back up we went. On this pass Scot hooked one mahi up and I saw a big boil where a big marlin had just grabbed something 15 yards of our beam. Within 20 seconds there was a big marlin in our wake and it eagerly came right up and took one of our aku. Scot free spooled the reel to let her swallow and then set the hook. There was no jumping or any long runs just a steady pull on the line. Mike had it easy this fish almost swam right to the boat, for a fish this size it was not putting up much of a fight, it was hooked deep and hurt by the hook. Within less than 20 minutes this monster was at leader, Scot pulled her up and I sunk the flying gaff in to her and all hell broke loose. She passed the boat and broke the starboard outrigger pulling a marlin wheelie, that sent Scot and me to the deck as the flygaff rope pulled tight. The leader broke somehow and she stayed hooked on the gaff, We pulled her close again and put another flying gaff in her, this time when she ran I just barely got my hand out of a loop in the rope. Not before she gave me a gorilla handshake to remember her by. At this point we could just tow her around till she calmed down. This time she was done when she came up and we adjusted her attitude and pulled her through the transom door, all but her tail fit. Then it was time to go home, anything else would have been anticlimactic. In the harbor she tipped the scales at 669 pounds, obviously our record for the year. I had no problem getting everyone to eat eyeballs with me even though I was the only one to eat one from the marlin. This was Wendy and Mike's second time fishing with us. We like lucky folks like them to fish with us. Great job all around. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Judd Feldman, Chris Ling, Karl Fooks, and Mark and Kyle Fooks, Karl got the mahi and Judd had a big marlin on for a long run
We got a 4:30 departure on this day of 20 mph north wind going to the LL buoy. No strikes trolling by , but on our first jigging pass Karl hooked a nice mahi and got it. The first live bait we put out had not been out for long before a big marlin came along and ate it. It proceded to strip almost all the line off a 14/0 reel while Judd sat in the chair watching it scream. This marlin did not jump untill it was 450 yards out, and at this point the line was going straight back behind the boat and the marlin was way over on our port quarter. We were backing down trying to keep some line on the reel when it did one more leap and broke the 180 pound test line. The big belly of line draging through the water put too much strain on the line causing it to break. Bummer. Right after we got all the line back on the reel and went back to the buoy the other boat there hooked up a monster marlin easily 800 pounds, that put on a great show for us before it broke his line too. Back in the harbor I got Karl and Kyle to eat eyeballs. It was a fun day. Aloha Capt Rusty
