become immortal

The Australian Museum invites you to support the exciting task of discovering Australian animal diversity.

Immortals Program

The Immortals Program has been set up to help scientists in the Australian Museum carry out their essential work discovering and describing Australia's rich biodiversity. Your tax-deductible donation of AUD$5000 to the Immortals Program will assist the scientific description of unnamed species discovered by our researchers. Your support will provide vital assistance in filling the missing gaps in understanding Australia's biodiversity.

So, why do we call this the Immortals Program? Your generous contribution will be "immortalised" in various ways. Primarily, your support will provide the means for naming and describing a new species. This species will be preserved in the annals of science, providing an "immortal" link to the research you helped fund. If you choose to join our Immortals Elite Program, your contribution will also help "immortalise" the name chosen by you in scientific publications.

In the past, some donors to Australian Museum research programs have had a new species named in their honour as a way of thanking them. This is a time-honoured tradition in science of recognising the support of benefactors. These benefactors have, in a very special and unique way, achieved a form of immortality.

If you would like to guarantee that your name will be immortalised, then why not consider the Immortals Elite Program? By paying an extra non-tax deductible amount of $500 (incl. GST) to the Immortals Elite Program, you can ensure your right to name a previously undescribed species.

Benefits of joining the Immortals Elite Program
By making a further $500 (non tax deductible) donation to the Immortals Elite Program:

  • Your name will be preserved forever in the annals of science. The name you give to your sponsored animal becomes the world standard for that particular species.
  • You will be presented with:
    • a special commemorative certificate
    • an attractively framed illustration of your sponsored animal
    • details of the biology and ecology of the animal named by you
  • You will be publicly recognised for your assistance in the discovery, description and protection of Australia's animals by inclusion on the Immortals Program display in the Australian Museum.
  • You will receive membership to The Australian Museum Society (TAMS), with all its benefits, including:
    • free access to the Museum for one year
    • opportunities to participate in scientific field trips and lectures
    • access to special exhibitions
    • one year subscription to Nature Australia Magazine

A Gift of Immortality - Individual Donations
When you join the Immortals Elite Program, you can decide who your new species will be named after. It can be named after yourself, another person, or it could even be named for a couple or family. A new species name is the perfect gift to commemorate a special occasion such as an anniversary or a colleague's retirement. A gift of immortality is much more meaningful and will outlast anything you can buy!
