Secretary Powell greets Dr. Jane Goodall at Open Forum-Earth Day programEarth Day

North Korea Talks, April 23-25 in Beijing
Department Spokesman Boucher (Apr. 21): "The United States will remain in close consultation with Japan, Korea, and will work with China and with other friends and allies on our diplomatic efforts to resolve the international community's concerns over North Korea's nuclear weapons programs." Local villagers collect water on April 15 from tanker trucks supplied by the U.S.Army outside of the municipal stadium in Kirkuk. The water was distributed by members of the 404th Civil Affairs Unit and the 173rd Airborne Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Operation Iraqi Freedom is the multinational coalition effort to liberate the Iraqi people, eliminate Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and end the regime of Saddam Hussein. President Bush has requested about $2.4 billion for relief and reconstruction efforts in Iraq. The U.S. also is providing about 670,000 metric tons of food. Enough food already has been shipped from the United States to feed 4.5 million Iraqis for 1 month.
