Irish
Federation of Sea Anglers
(IFSA) continued.
Note:
In 1988, the E.S.R.I. prepared a report for the CFB entitled “An
Economic Evaluation of Irish Angling”. This
report estimated that there were over 25,000 sea anglers in Ireland.
It was noted that club (federation) membership was not as important to
sea anglers as others and despite the fact that there has been an apparent
decrease in sea angling participants over the last 10 years, it is probable that
the 5,000 membership of the IFSA represents less than half the total number of
marine sport fishermen.

European
Anglers Alliance (Ireland)
This
Angling Alliance is only a few years in existence but most of the major angling
federations are represented. The
alliance is very strong throughout the European Union and some eastern European
countries. At present, a new constitution is being initiated at national
level. There is some hope that an
angling umbrella group will be formed from this group to represent all the
Angling Federations in Ireland in the near future. The alliance is not involved with hosting international
competitions at present.
