This pier is located about
half a kilometer to the east of the village and there is some car
parking on the pier. Bottom fishing onto clear ground produces
flounder, dabs and dogfish using lugworm, crab and fishbait.
Spinning and float fishing produce Pollack and wrasse
respectively. At night, conger are taken on the outer wall of the
pier over the rough ground. This is an ideal location for
sheltered fishing in bad weather. The beach which is opposite the
pier produces flatfish and dogfish on a flooding tide.
Bait
Bait can be
obtained from Carrigaholt Pier which is situated 0.5 km on the
eastern side of Carrigaholt village. Access is easy and there is
parking on the side of the road near the main Slipway. Soft and
peeler crab can be collected both here and and among the rocks
adjacent to the pier. Some lugworm and small ragworm can also be
dug in the sandy patches beside the inner pier. There is another
beach 2.75 kms south west of Carrigaholt called Rinevalla Bay.
There is good access as the road runs along the head of the
beach. At low water there are patches of lugworm all along this
stretch and the most productive areas are in the shelter of the
rocky outcrops and sand banks.

BASS
It is prohibited to take and kill more than two bass on any one day.
(Bye-law No.667)
· Minimum overall size limit of 40cm. From tip of snout to end of
tail. Closed season from 15th May to 15th June.
Note: Penalties for breach of the
above laws include confiscation of tackle and heavy fines.
