Australian Museum's Death Online

Death
the last taboo

From mortuaries to mummies - Thousands of years of cultural traditions along with new ideas like turning cremated remains into diamonds feature in a new exhibition now open at the Australian Museum, death: the last taboo.

The exhibition will be on show at the Australian Museum until 2 November 2003, after which it is due to travel to several locations around Australia.

This website is a brief introduction to the exhibition. It is also an opportunity for you to contribute stories about your own experiences, attitudes and beliefs.

On this website you can read some of the stories others have contributed. To contribute a story, choose from some of the subjects that we would like to cover in the exhibition.

We are interested in your thoughts, attitudes and experiences of death. You might like to explain how your cultural or religious beliefs will affect the preparation and disposal of your body after your death. Or you might decide to write about a funeral you have been to. Tell us how you have remembered someone who has died.

The Australian Museum is strongly committed to protecting your privacy while you are using our websites. The Australian Museum will only use your information in the way we have stated and in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act.
