NET ACCESS
Buyer's alert: Speedy surfing without the cost
Broadband Internet adoption rates have skyrocketed in the past couple of years, but not everyone is jumping on board. Some prefer their poky dial-up modems because DSL and cable access just plain cost more. Now, ISPs are catching on. EarthLink and NetZero (Juno) now offer high-speed dial-up service that costs just a bit more than standard dial-up and a lot less than broadband.

Sony's handheld gaming: what took so long?
Sony just announced a new handheld gaming device at this week's E3 conference, but some are wondering why it took the company so long to get into this market. According to Sony execs, the giant has been eyeing the handheld gaming market for years but held off until the technology and the market were right.

Hacking the Fizzer worm could be illegal
Some IRC operators are finding ways to fight off Fizzer. On a Web site that Fizzer uses to update itself, one operator placed a program that forces Fizzer to uninstall itself. Clever, huh? But now some legal experts warn that manipulating the worm could be illegal.

It's a file-sharing fiesta
A new all-you-can-eat music download service that claims to take advantage of a loophole in Spanish copyright law will launch on Tuesday and piggyback on popular file-swapping network Grokster for distribution. Grokster will be marketing Puretunes to its users either through a button in the software or by bundling the Puretunes software along with the Grokster download.

See Matrix Reloaded online?
Internet file-swapping circles are buzzing with rumors that a copy of The Matrix Reloaded had already been released online. Posts on hacker sites described a two-CD release of the film by a group that had earlier claimed to have posted the X-Men sequel, sparking a frenzy of activity in chat channels and movie-swapping forums.
