The Accounting Department's mission is to provide accurate financial information to the Clerk's administrative staff and department managers within the Clerk's office. Our department prepares annual financial statements and provides this information for inclusion in the County's annual financial report. Through additional and improved automation, better procedures, and improved staff training, we strive to continuously improve in our efficiencies to accurately document the financial records of the Clerk's office.
About the Accounting Department
The Accounting Department is structured into four functional areas which are payroll, revenue and payables, reconciliation and budget and reporting. The total staff is sixteen people.
Payroll Section is responsible for:
- Biweekly payrolls of the Clerk's 700 + employees
- Proper reporting to federal and state governmental agencies
- Health, dental and life insurance benefits funding
Revenue and Payables are responsible for:
- Recording of all receipts collected in the central departments and branches
- Purchasing function for the Clerk's office
- Payments of the Clerk's office operating expenses
- Disbursements to various state, county, municipalities and local agencies collected by the Clerk's office
- Process court ordered disbursements
- Issue support checks daily
- Payments to witnesses and jurors
Reconciliation is responsible for:
- Monthly reconciliation of all cash accounts
- Monthly reconciliation of clerk's financial system to operational support systems
- Annual inventory of Clerk's fixed assets
Budget and Reporting:
- Preparation of the Clerk's Annual Budget
- Preparation of the Clerk's Financial Statements
- Prepare various reports required by Florida Statute
General Information
- Paid out over $73 million in child support payments
- Issued over 135,000 child support checks
- Paid out $770,000 in witness and jury fees
- Distributed from fines and forfeitures:
- $7.8 million to the County
- $4.5 million to the municipalities within the County
- $7.1 million to the State
- Distributed from filing fee receipts:
- $4.4 million to the County
- $1.1 million to the State
- $518,000 to the Legal Aid Society
- Disbursed to the State
- $97.9 million for documentary stamp collections
- $18.4 million for intangible tax collections
