WARSAW

If you do not have at least
two weeks to discover all the faces of the capital town at your own pace, you
may find some of our recommendations interesting. Warsaw has plenty to offer.

Enjoy the old districts, a unique combination of craftsmanship, beauty, indomitable
spirit and random socialist recollections.
 There
is also a satisfying concentration of bars, shops and restaurant to hang out in.
- Visit the Warsaw Museum. Even those who usually avoid museums get absorbed
by Warsaw history, and enjoy the exposition in vaulted
rooms and corridors snaking zig-zag through one entire row of the Old Town Market
Square.
- Do not also miss the National Gallery (Al. Jerozolimskie) with
a fantastic collection of impressive Gothic carvings, European
paintings
of the 16-18th centuries, and an ultimate exhibition of Polish modernism.

Especially in the summer it is worth going down to the Vistula River, as its right
bank swarms with dozens of noisy pubs. Beer,
sausages
with pickled gherkins, beer, music, beer, and fun.
- Enjoy the skyline
from the downtown avenues. Take a fast lift to the 30th floor of the tallest Warsaw's
skyscraper: the famous
Stalin's
gift to the ravished capital (1954) and see life from a cloud.
- There
are restaurants on the top of the Intraco and the Marriott buildings - breathtaking
and appetizing views from the skyline.
- Check the traces of the Jewish
ghetto. Known from Isaac Bashevi Singer's tales, completely destroyed 60 years
ago after
uprising.

Being on the prowl for museums and famous personalities do not forget about Marie
Curie-Sk³odowska and Frederyk Chopin.
Both
the uranium founder (2 Nobel Prices) and the brilliant composer lived in the capital
- their museums are at the old town.
Last
but not least a collection of Fine Arts donated by John Paul II is within a walking
distance.
- Music: Buskers on the streets, Mozart in the Chamber Opera,
Russian ballet in the Great Theatre, Chopin concerts in the £aziênki
Park.
- Fun: Being a capital
(2 Mln) of a country of many lively people (40 Mln), Warsaw gives many oppotunities
to see day breaking - especially
in the summer when the sun rises earlier.
- Penetrate the picturesque old
town courtyards - they are true oases of peace in the city.
- Not one,
but three Royal Palaces around the City - three in a close proximity. Royal Castle,
Laziênki, Wilanów
- A genuine Eastern Market on the east
river bank, on a stadium built for meetings of communist youth. Now vodka, low-quality
shoes and clothes, icons,
pirate CD, DVD, MP3, stuffed pheasants and frequent pickpocketing. Dirty and interesting
for the first
time.
