The transition has begun from spring to summer landscapes, with many old-fashioned favorites now in bloom. Trees and shrubs in flower include fragrant lilacs, colorful weigelas, rhododendrons and magnificent buckeyes. Spring annuals are being replaced by heat-tolerant annuals in flower beds and containers. The number of perennials in bloom is increasing, and includes Siberian irises, bleeding hearts and perennial geraniums. Magnificent tree peonies can be seen in the English Walled Garden, Rose Garden and West Flower Walk. Ornamental onions and camass lilies are the most conspicuous bulbs in bloom right now. Stroll the Lakeside Gardens to see snowdrop anemones, marsh spurge, Father Hugo's rose and many other perennials and shrubs.
