General Information

The Applied Real Estate Course is compulsory for all new licensees and forms part of the total real estate licensing process.

In accordance with regulations established by the Real Estate Council of British Columbia, application for the above course must be made within 30 days of being licensed. Failure by the licensee to register for the Applied Real Estate Course within 30 days of licence issuance may result in the termination of your real estate licence.

It is recommended that you register for the post-licensing course immediately upon receipt of your pre-licensing examination results in order to obtain maximum benefit. Early registration is advised as the demand for the course is high and classroom space is limited. Applications must be made in writing and will not be accepted by telephone.

Upon receipt of your completed application form and tuition fee, the British Columbia Real Estate Association will place you in the FIRST AVAILABLE COURSE. The Real Estate Council of British Columbia, the licensing authority, will be advised of those who fail to apply for or complete the course in accordance with its regulations, and those concerned will be subject to licence withdrawal.

Course Objective

The Applied Real Estate Course is designed to provide practical training in real estate to new licensees which, together with the pre-licensing course, will enable them to confidently and effectively serve the public's real estate needs in a professional manner.

Organization

The Applied Real Estate Course was developed by the British Columbia Real Estate Association and is offered at various locations throughout the province.

Instructors are experienced professionals drawn from the real estate industry and trained in instructional methods. This ensures that all students are exposed to the day-to-day practical experience of real estate professionals.

Course Structure

  1. Classes consist of 30 hours of instruction and are conducted either on a week-long basis or one day a week for five weeks.
  2. Those students approved by the Real Estate Council to attend the Accelerated Applied Real Estate Course are required to attend seven units (Units 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10) out of ten. As the fee is the same, Accelerated students are welcome to attend all ten units.
  3. Students who miss part or all of a unit will be required to repeat the entire unit. Make-up units are charged 10 per cent of the course fee plus GST per day, payable in advance to the British Columbia Real Estate Association.

Certificates and Qualification

Certificates will be distributed by the British Columbia Real Estate Association to those who successfully complete the course. As there are no examinations, qualification is based on class participation and attendance. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT ANY ABSENCE FROM THE COURSE SESSION AND/OR UNIT INCLUDING LATE ARRIVAL OR EARLY DEPARTURE WILL PROHIBIT THE GRANTING OF CREDIT FOR THE UNIT. Absence from the course and subsequent delay in completing the course will only be approved for serious illness or compassionate reasons. Absence will not be approved for personal holidays or for business appointments.
