FISHING REPORT THIS WEEK

UPPER SHANNON

Lough Sheelin

Week Ending  Sunday June 15th, 2003

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board Lough Sheelin Office reports

Fishing has slowed on Lough Sheelin compared with recent weeks. Anglers reported observing trout feeding on fry in the Goreport area of the lake. They also confirm that fish are not feeding as readily on fly as they were. Fly hatches presently are Murrough sedges, Silver horns, buzzer and a small number of Mayfly.  Anglers should do well late evening fishing this week with sedges. We had a few catch returns, one a nice fish caught by Richard Hunter from Navan at 5lbs 9ozs see picture. Other anglers reported catching and releasing a number of smaller fish up to 1.5lbs. A Co Meath angler had a fish of 2.5lbs

Lough O'Flynn

Week Ending  Sunday June 15th, 2003

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board Ballinlough  Office reports

A recent rise in temperatures and improved angling conditions has resulted in more activity and better fishing on Lough O'Flynn. A lot of olives and sedge flies are hatching presently and a good rise of fish  was reported over recent days.  Water levels on the lake which were very high are now recovering well and prospects look good for the coming week as weather is forecast to be generally much improved. Ber Mannion and Mattie Foley had 24 fish between them over the weekend, they released many. Kieran Coughlan Shannonbridge had 4 fish on Saturday to Green Peter. More next week.
