"Oakhampton" is halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, and only forty five minutes from Tamworth. This is a typical Australian countryside at its best.
The station has been in the Nixon family since 1864 and is still a working farm property. Cattle and sheep are the mainstay along with some crops.
Oakhampton has Cabins and renovated shearers quarters available for hire. Great for larger groups
Guests are welcome to assist with the feeding of the animals each day at the homestead. You also have free use of the homesteads swimming pool, tennis courts, full size billiard table and games room. Horse riding is also available at extra charge.
Less than 2 kilometres away is Split Rock Dam, where it is possible to enjoy fishing, sailing, canoeing and boating. In fact Split Rock Dam has been constructed on land that was originally part of the Oakhampton property.
A 10 minute drive will take you to a yabby farm and to a paragliding/handgliding club. The Manilla area is well known for paragliding and now holds the National championships annually.

Belinda is a member of WIRES (Wildlife Rescue Services) and has helped many animals to return to their natural habitat.
John is busy farming a lot of the time, but enjoys talking with guests about the farm and animals if they are interested.

The Homestead features three rooms with ensuites overlooking the large garden and rolling hills, one of the rooms has its own closed in veranda with two easy chairs for privacy and comfort. Four other bedrooms are also available making a total of 16 beds.There are two farmers cottages each with three bedrooms for hire, one very close to the homestead, the other approximately 2 kilometres away. Both cottages have 3 bedrooms and can sleep 7, with bedding, linen and towels provided. The kitchen is fully stocked with cutlery, crockery, kitchen utensils and a microwave oven. A gas BBQ and Weber can be borrowed from the homestead if required. The nine original shearers cabins have been converted and can accommodate up to 36 people. There is a dining room and kitchen available at the cabins or meals can be catered for. A shower block is also provided. This complex is a great place to hold an educational camp and to experience a true Australian working property. The cottage known as the 'Topspot' was constructed in 1932 totally from the timber cut from Oakhampton trees. The cottage is within walking distance of the Homestead and is situated on a hill from where it is possible to view much of the property. The 'Topspot' was used as a workmans cottage up till 1988, where the gardener come handyman and his family lived.
