In 2001 a small group of anglers along with
the Ocean Crest and
Long Beach piers collaborated with the Southport-Oak
Island Area Chamber of Commerce to bring forth the first annual U.S. Open
Pier Fishing Tournament. The event is designed to showcase the
quality and quantity of pier fishing in the Southport-Oak Island
area. The U.S. Open Pier Fishing Tournament attracted almost 100
anglers its first year. We are looking for 200 anglers of every
age and skill level to participate in the 2003 event. Entry fees are
low with the prizes adjusting according to number of participants.
Registration will be on Friday, June 6th from 3pm-8:30pm at the
Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce office. This year's tournament will be held June 6-8, 2003.
