Presidential Management Intern Program

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the PMI Program, you must be a graduate student completing your master's or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. You must receive nomination by the dean, director or chairperson of your academic program in the beginning of your last year of graduate studies. To be nominated, you must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, a capacity for leadership, growth potential and a commitment to a career in the analysis and management of public policies and programs.

How to apply

If you are interested in a career as a PMI, contact the head of your graduate program, or your college career guidance and placement office. Announcements inviting nominations to the PMI Program are mailed each September to graduate schools nationwide. The PMI Application form will be posted online at www.pmi.opm.gov in mid-September, and will remain online until October 31st. You may also obtain a copy of the application through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) USAJOBS line at (912) 757-3000.

After you have received nomination from an appropriate official, you must submit your signed PMI Application with your typed resume. Additional forms are required for those claiming Veterans or Native American preference.

Letters of recommendation are not necessary, and will not be considered. You may apply to the program only once.
