New Outdoor Gear for 2001:
FOOTWEAR (Shoes/Boots/Sandals)
Whatever outdoor activity you enjoy there is footwear designed
to do it better. There's special shoes and boots for all activities,
and many companies offer multi-function shoes and boots.
Columbia Sportswear. Columbia offers a wide range
of shoe and boat options. Angela Hult and Emily Kaplan shared
numerous styles with us. The Lucky Wave Sandal, an amphibian water
to land sandal, has an outsole with multi-directional lug design
for comfort, durability and traction, has a molded and contoured
EVA footbed with cushioned slip resistant inserts, and multi-adjustable
Velcro closures. It retails for around $64.95.
If you're a trail runner you may want to look into the Columbia
Vertebrae shoe. It is ultra- light and has nice color accents
to it. The airmesh upper provides support and enhanced breathability.
It has padded collar and gusset tongue for support and comfort
and contoured EVA mid-sole for flexible, impact resistant cushioning.
It retails for $69.95.
The Columbia River Trainer is reportedly the hottest night clubbing
shoe in London. So, it's not only a versatile land-water shoe
with open mesh drainage panels on both sides, it is very stylish.
Columbia has a slip-on, quick drying shoe called the Watusi Trainer,
that features an adjustable elastic cord with the barrel lock
to enhance the fit of the shoe (really nice).

Nike ACG. At the Nike/ACG (All Conditions Gear)
booth, Olympic athlete and X Games big-air snowboard champion
Barrett Christy was on hand to introduce an ACG signature shoe
series designed after her. From the company who created Nike "Air"
comes the shoe inspired by the "big air queen" herself
- the "Air Barrett Christi." The shoe reflects Barrett's
own personality and training regime. The versatile outdoor cross
training shoe handles steep running trails to paved streets with
strength, style and attitude. Female customers are acutely aware
of their needs in a shoe, they know what they like and Nike says
this shoe promises to address those needs. Lightweight enough
to throw in your backpack, the sticky rubber outsole provides
unsurpassed traction on dubious outdoor terrain.

The Nike ACG Hellcat was created according to Nike, "because
our Pro Snowboarding team told us they needed something to wear
when they weren't riding. The Hellcat is ACG's answer for the
summer." It's lightweight, durable and has traction for
days. This open-toe shoe is made from a combination suede and
nylon mesh. The mid-sole provides super cushy comfort to sooth
feet after a hard day at play.
The Nike Air Deschutz (pronounced du-shoots) was designed as part
of the ACG amphibious. The Air Deschutz sandal was made for those
who like to get wet and wild. Made for both surf and turf, Nike
says that the Air Deschutz performs as hard as you do and is lightweight
and fast drying.
Timberland. According to Jarid Oviatt, Timberland
puts functionality first and fashion second. They build into the
shoes a shock defusion plate, all day performance, and much more
cushioning. "When we build a women's shoe, we don't just
cut down from a man's shoe. Women's styles are molded and re-lasted
for a woman's fit." They have a good looking line of Multi-Sport
shoes.
Timberland has a wide range of watersports shoes and sandals.
According to Jarid, Timberland is the only company to have EVA
mid soles. Their watershoes have non-marking soles so boat owners
will be happy. The soles also prevent you from slipping on smooth
wet surfaces, but are still good on rocks. Drainage holes keep
you from sloshing around after they get wet.
After-sport shoes are becoming more popular and Timberland has
a variety to choose from. They're easy on - easy off. You don't
have to tie or lace them after skiing, or to or from water sports.
