Sacramento River Fishing Report
The upper river through Redding remains good for both fly and spin fisherman.
On a recent trip, a 6 pound trout found it's way to the boat, and on another
trip a 10 to 12 pounder broke off at the boat. 25 to 35 fish days still are
the norm, with the average fish of 11 to 16 inches. For spin fishing, try
glow bugs or crickets, and for fly fishing try nymphs, and in the evening, try
a cattis, or an occasional stone fly. The shad are starting to slow down now,
and the salmon are moving into the upper river in fair numbers. Even higher
numbers are moving into the lower river.
Shasta Lake Fishing Report
The bass in the lake are coming out of their post-spawn mode, and I'm starting
to see more fish coming out of the McCloud Arm. The main bite is 8-15 feet deep.
Try using rubber worms, hula grubs, crank baits, and spinner baits. The trout
are down about 40-50 feet, and the salmon are about 70-100 feet. Try humdingers,
coconuts, wedding rings, dodgers, and the like.
Sacramento River Fishing Forecast for June and July 2003
The shad have moved into the Tehama and Red Bluff Areas. Catching
30 to 40, or even 50 fish is a good possibility, and it will only get
better through the months of June and into mid-July. The sturgeon bite
will remain fair to good in the evening into late night. The stripers
have been fair in the Colusa Area, and will be moving out into the Deltas.
Shasta Lake Fishing Forecast for June and July 2003
In the upcoming weeks the call for salmon and trout will be trolling,
30 to 70 feet. The blue gill, crappie, and catfish will be getting more
active. The bass will be in their summer homes, around the banks.
