League and Team Sites Hosted by RMG3 Add Many New Features to Enhance the Fan Experience
ATLANTA (Wednesday, March 26, 2003) – The Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) today announced offseason improvements made to www.wusa.com, for the upcoming season, which begins April 5.
The newest innovation is the integration of players’ bios across the network of league web sites hosted and maintained by WUSA Internet partner RMG3. The network includes WUSA.com as well as six of the eight WUSA team sites – www.theatlantabeat.com, www.carolinacourage.com, www.nypower.com, www.philadelphiacharge.com, www.sandiegospirit.com and www.washingtonfreedom.com. A team representative can now enter a player’s bio into RMG3’s proprietary 1Touch™ Content Management Tool and have the bio automatically publish to the league’s web site as well as the team’s web site.
Other improvements are focused on giving users a more entertaining experience at WUSA.com. Fans are now able to email a photo on the web site to their friends. By clicking on a link, a fan can enter in their name, email address and that of a friend to send the photo. The photo arrives in their friend’s mailbox with a link to the story in which it appeared. Users can also download Instant Messenger icons featuring the teams’ logos and mascots for use with AOL Instant Messenger and WUSA’s message boards.
Several areas of content have been updated or added for the 2003 season. The bios themselves have been restructured in a new standardized format allowing fans to easily find all the information they are looking for on their favorite players. New html versions of WUSA’s email newsletter are now available including special alerts and weekly television updates. And, fans can now sign up for email newsletters from their favorite WUSA team directly from WUSA.com.
History pages archiving results, stories and photo galleries from the league’s annual milestones – the Draft, All-Star Game and Founders Cup – have been created. Also available is a WUSA fact sheet available in five languages – Chinese, English, French, German and Spanish – allowing users from around the globe to access information on the only fully professional women’s soccer league in the world.
Team-by-team previews, giving fans a look at each club in anticipation of the kickoff of the 2003 season, have also been published to WUSA.com. Looking back at the history of the WUSA, all of the statistics from the league’s second year as well as year one have been archived.
A number of improvements have been made to the six WUSA team web sites designed and hosted by RMG3. The upgrades ensure simple navigation and integration with the rest of the league’s official sites.
Users now have the option of making a team web site their homepage, which automatically loads when their web browser opens. Fans can easily jump to their favorite player’s bio, another team’s web site or the league web site with navigation bars found on every page of the team web site. Live scoring from every match during the season will be available along with links to scores from other matches around the league. Improvements have also been made to the team web sites to keep users more aware of the events surrounding their team. A “Next Home Game” box adorns the top of each team site, along with links to promotion, television and ticket information for that match. Promotion boxes have been standardized providing the team web sites with a clean, fresh look. The team’s sponsors, a sneak peak of the team’s photo galleries, and the league’s message boards are all prominently promoted on the team web sites as well.
About WUSA Featuring the best women's soccer players in the world, WUSA athletes include Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Briana Scurry, Kristine Lilly, Julie Foudy and dozens of international stars. Approximately 50 WUSA players will compete in the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup in China in September and October. The eight WUSA teams are the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and the Washington Freedom.
