By September 1, 2003, the U.S. Government Printing Office will be closing all of its bookstores nationwide, except for the main bookstore in Washington, DC, which will undergo reconfiguration. The retail sales outlet in Laurel will remain in operation to service bookdealers picking up from the co-located warehouse facility only. The closures result from an overall decline in sales due to the dramatic increase in access to government information on the Internet and the shift from walk-in traffic at bookstores to purchases from the U.S. Government Online Bookstore. The bookstore closing schedule is as follows:
Atlanta | Denver
| Detroit | Houston
| Jacksonville | Laurel A service
of the Superintendent of Documents, U.S.
Government Printing Office.
