How long is a license
good for?
Licenses are good from the
date of purchase through December 31 of the license year. The exceptions to
this are the resident trapping licenses which are valid through September 30 of
the next calendar year and the nonresident fishing licenses which are good for
only 1, 3, 7 or 14 days.
Can I buy a Crewmember
license?
Yes, but you can only buy
one license at a time. Use the Sport/Crew button to choose what type of license
you want.
How long do I need to
live in Alaska to be determined a resident?
Resident: Means a person
(including an alien) who is physically present in Alaska with the intent to
remain indefinitely and make a home here, who has maintained that person’s
domicile in Alaska for the 12 consecutive months immediately preceding this
application for a license, and is not claiming residency or obtaining benefits
under a claim of residency in another state, territory or country. A member of
the military service or U.S. Coast Guard or their dependents who have been
stationed in Alaska for the 12 consecutive months preceding the application can
purchase a resident license.
Nonresident Military: A
person on active duty permanently stationed in Alaska or their dependents.
Nonresident: A person who
does not meet residency requirements as outlined above and is a resident of the
United States; or an alien who has maintained a permanent place of abode in the
United States.
Nonresident Alien: A person
who is not a citizen of the United States nor has lived in the State of Alaska
for the preceding 12 consecutive months.
Do I need a King Salmon
Stamp?
Only if you plan on fishing
for and or keeping an incidentally caught King Salmon. Please check the
regulations for King Salmon harvesting in the area you are fishing.
If I buy a Duck Stamp,
why do I have to fill out the Harvest Information Program data?
This information is
required by the United States Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife
Service for all persons buying duck stamps. All fields need to be filled out if
you wish to purchase a duck stamp.
How many Big Game Tags
can I buy?
You can buy as many as you
want but you need to check the regulations for the area you are going to hunt
for bag limits and whether or not there are registration or draw permits
required.

limits?
Bag limits are regulated by
the Division of Wildlife Conservation. You can write or call the Dept of Fish

Resident Licensees: Yes if
you plan to hunt brown/grizzly bear, or a cow/bull musk ox.
Nonresident / Nonresident
Military / Nonresident Alien Licensees: Yes if you plan to hunt brown/grizzly
bear, black bear, bison, caribou, deer, elk, goat, moose, bull musk ox, sheep,
wolf or wolverine.
Resident Licensees: No
Nonresident Licensees: Yes
if you plan to hunt brown/grizzly bear, sheep or goat. You may have a resident
spouse or relative within & including the 2nd degree of kindred
be your guide.
Nonresident Alien
Licensees: Any hunting of big game animals requires a guide.
Nonresident Military
Licensees: No
Is there a list of
guides available?
A list of licensed Alaska
guides is available for $5. The list includes guide-outfitters and assistant
guide-outfitters and the areas for which they are licensed, transporters and
commercial use permit holders. To obain a copy of the list, send $5 in US funds
drawn on a US bank payable to "State of Alaska" to:
