By the end of your stay, your ability to communicate effectively in French will astonish you! Orientation in Paris Your adventure begins in Paris, the grandest of all French "classrooms." During your three-day orientation, become an expert at negotiating the Metro, visit the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre, and meander down the Champs Elysées, practicing French as you and your group visit local vendors to buy breads, pastries, fruits, and cheeses for a picnic lunch. Feel free to stop and ask for directions as often as you need to... in French, of course!
France and Its Borders Travel by train to a small French community, where you receive a warm welcome from your host family. Following your 11-day homestay, explore France's eastern frontier as you visit medieval villages along the Swiss or German borders and experience the breathtaking beauty of the Jura Mountains, Alsace, and Franche-Comte. Exploring the Camargue Famous for its natural beauty, running bulls, and white horses, the Camargue is France's Wild West. While living with a caring host family, you and your group discover Camarguais traditions, ride horseback with the hardy Camargue gardiens, take part in a gypsy evening of music and dance, or talk with the local fishermen of "Petite Camargue." Immerse yourself in the dramatic landscape as you hike through alpine fields, climb massive glaciers, try out your mountaineering skills, and practice French with local shepherds in fairy tale villages. Your program concludes with a hike over the Italian border for an overnight in the mountains. Discover this coastal province rich in music, art, and rugged natural beauty. Following your Breton homestay, visit Pont-Aven, home to painter Paul Gauguin; cook traditional Breton crêpes; and experience Breton poetry, storytelling, and traditional song at the festival of Cornouailles in Quimper. Your journey ends in Vannes, a fortified city at the entrance of the Gulf of Morbihan, where you relax on one of the 365 coastal islands famed for their soft beaches and stunning nature preserves. Your journey begins with a visit to the famous Comedie Francaise in Paris. Following orientation, spend 17 days with a caring French family as you enjoy the world-famous Avignon Theater Festival. A weeklong theater seminar in Paris prepares you and your group to perform your own play -- entirely in French! Sample host community: Uzès Code: FRTH03 - Four weeks Capturing France on Film Under the guidance of a Parisian photojournalist and documentarian, you receive a thorough introduction to the beauty and power of photography. Following your 17-day homestay, return to Paris to create a photo documentary on a topic of your choice. Classes in technique deepen your mastery of light, ambience, and storyline. Explore the colorful neighborhoods of Paris equipped with your camera and French language skills, then join your group to develop your images and review your experiences. Your journey culminates with a show of your work in southern Paris. Bicycles are provided. Following orientation, travel to Les Gorges du Tarn for two weeks of language classes. Deepen your insight into French culture through mountain bike excursions to medieval towns, visits to local cheesemakers and the Caves of Roquefort, and hikes to local castles. Conclude with a week of cooking classes in picturesque Pau. By summer's end, you'll be able to communicate effectively in French -- and bake your own baguette!
