Lynn Canal Summer ServiceBetween May 22 and June 3, dayboat service will be available Thursday through Monday between Juneau, Haines, Skagway and return. Daily service will start June 3 and continue through September 11, 2003. Vessels depart from Juneau/Auke Bay at 7:00 a.m. and return at 11:00 p.m. Take a day trip up Lynn Canal over Memorial Day weekend, or anytime this summer! Alaska's Marine Highway Celebrates 40th YearOn January 23, 1963, the newly completed M/V Malaspina arrived in Ketchikan, marking the day as the official first day of the Alaska Marine Highway System. On January 23, 2003, the Alaska Marine Highway marks the day as the official beginning of a year-long celebration of its 40th anniversary year. For more information, please see our Press Release.
Last-Minute Schedule and Service Changes
Wednesday, April 30 - Starting on Monday, April 28, the Glenn Highway will be closed from from Caribou Creek to Sheep Mountain Inn (Caribou Gulch) from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. The closure will not be in effect on Saturday and Sunday, but expect delays of up to 20 minutes at all times during the next five months. The Juneau Call Center Reservations Office has gone to extended summer hours until August 15th. The office is open Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, the Tok Public Lands Information Center takes reservations until 7:30 p.m. each evening. The Centennial Hall ticket office at 101 Egan Drive in downtown Juneau is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Federal regulations require that all passengers traveling on AMHS routes may be asked to provide their full name, date of birth, and citizenship prior to boarding AMHS vessels. Please see our Traveler's Advisory for more information on this and other security measures.
The Alaska Marine Highway System ticket office has moved to 6858 Glacier Highway, adjacent to the existing Maintenance and Operations facility for the Department of Transportation. The ticket office at 1591 Glacier Avenue is permanently closed.
Passengers traveling to and from Whittier, and especially those departing on the M/V Bartlett from Whittier, are advised to check the Whittier Tunnel Web site for a schedule of when the tunnel is open to vehicle traffic. You may be unable to make your sailing if you do not arrive at the tunnel at a time when it is open. Bicycle and foot traffic is prohibited through the tunnel, and there are vehicle size and other restrictions of which you should be aware before traveling through the tunnel.
