South American Soaker | Issued on: Tue Aug 5th 2003
An area of low pressure dumped 95mm of rain on Artigas in the north of Uruguay between midday GMT Monday and the same time on Tuesday. The August average rainfall is 83mm.

Hydrating Hyderabad | Issued on: Tue Aug 5th 2003
An area of thundery showers gave some significant downpours of rain to southeastern parts of Pakistan on Tuesday. In the 12 hours to midday GMT Tuesday, 31mm of rain had been collected in Hyderabad, just over half the August average rainfall of 59mm.

Rain bastes Big Apple | Issued on: Tue Aug 5th 2003
70mm of rain fell on the La Guardia Airport, one of the airports serving the Big Apple, New York, in the 18 hours to midnight GMT Tuesday. This is over half of the August average rainfall of 130mm.

Surprise Showers | Issued on: Tue Aug 5th 2003
A line of showers developed over the northwest coast of Libya during Tuesday morning. These gave 6mm of rain to Zuara in the 6 hours to midday GMT Tuesday which may not sound much but the August average rainfall here is only 0.3mm.

Wilting in Wales |Issued on: Tue Aug 5th 2003
At 1140 GMT on Tuesday the temperature in Valley, on the Isle of Anglesey had risen to 32.9 Celsius. This is over 14 degrees hotter than the average August maximum of 18.4 Celsius and sets a new record for the location. The previous record high was 32.8 Celsius which was set on July 27th 1948.
