Storms East and from Rockies to Plains
A persistent Eastern system and disturbances coming from the Rockies into the Plains provide two focuses for thunderstorm development.

All action is in the Pacific
Fri Aug 8, 9:58 AM ET
The western Pacific remains the most active region at this time. Typhoon Etau (winds of 100 mph) now past the island of Okinawa is tracking northeastward in the direction of the larger islands of Japan early this afternoon(EDT). It's on a course straight for Kyoto, Japan. Earlier, wind gusts were estimated close to 113 mph on Okinawa late Wednesday (EDT). The typhoon has been on a weakening trend over the past 12 to 15 hours and will continue to weaken as it travels basically across the length of Japan interacting with land. Flooding rains will likely be the primary impact for the main islands of Japan.

Soggy East and Unhealthy Air in Texas
Fri Aug 8, 9:56 AM ET
Storms along the Front Range may reach severe levels. Thunderstorms with heavy rain are also in the cards for Florida and parts of the Appalachians. Heat is creating an unhealthy environment in Texas.

Still Wet in the East and Stormy along the Front Range
Fri Aug 8, 9:48 AM ET
Air quality is very poor in Dallas and Houston. Much of the same weather pattern will keep the Eastern Seaboard soggy.

Poor air quality in Texas along with heat
Thu Aug 7, 9:56 PM ET
Through the weekend, scattered thunderstorms will roam the Eastern Seaboard and Plains with more heat from Montana to Texas. The air quality from Oklahoma to Texas is poor.

Storms and heat
Thu Aug 7, 9:41 PM ET
Strong thunderstorms will rumble across Montana overnight. Scattered thunderstorms produced localized flash flooding in parts of Northeast, Mid Atlantic and Southeast today. More thunderstorms with heavy rain is in the forecast again on Friday from New England to Pennsylvania. Thunderstorms with heavy rain are also in the cards for Florida.

No big changes
Thu Aug 7, 2:14 PM ET
Through the weekend, scattered thunderstorms will roam the Eastern Seaboard and Plains with more heat from Montana to Texas.

Stormy Plains
Mon Jul 28, 2:16 PM ET
The overall pattern will not change today and the result will be a continuation of stormy weather across the Plains.

Tropics remain tranquil
Mon Jul 28, 2:16 PM ET
Other than an area of showers and storms across the central Gulf of Mexico, most of the tropical Atlantic is relatively quiet this morning. Strong upper-level winds should prevent any tropical development from occurring in the Gulf of Mexico in the short term. The eastern Pacific remains free of any disturbed weather.

Severe threat Plains, Upper Midwest
Mon Jul 28, 2:15 PM ET
Severe thunderstorms will threaten portions of the northern and central Plains and Upper Midwest through this evening. Farther south, locally heavy downpours continue over the southern two-thirds of the Florida Peninsula.
