PETER SEASON NOT TOO FAR AWAY

"Midland Lakes Should soon Awaken as Peter Season Not Too Far Away " was the headline in last weeks report at the first sighting of the Peter on the Mullingar lakes. Unfortunately, very few peters were observed since, hence we'll have to wait a while longer to enjoy one of the angling years significant events 'the Green Peter Season'. TIGHT LINES !!

  • GOOD ACTION FROM LOUGH O'FLYNN AS PROLIFIC HATCHES OF SEDGE START TO EMERGE

  • GREEN PETER SEASON HASN'T COMMENCED YET ON THE MIDLAND LAKES

  • GRILSE AND CRONEEN TROUT ARE APPEARING ON THE  LITTLE BROSNA AND BROSNA RIVER SYSTEMS AS WE WRITE

FISHING REPORT THIS WEEK

UPPER SHANNON

Lough Sheelin

Week Ending  Sunday July 13th, 2003

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board Lough Sheelin Office reports

Only a handful of  anglers fished the lake for the past two weeks. John Murphy Crover & LSTPA had 5 trout for 18.5lbs, best 6.5lbs. He released 4 fish, all caught on dry sedges. Michael Kelly from Balbriggan caught and released 4 wild fish averaging 1.25lbs. Two French anglers, guests of Innyside Guest  House had 6 trout ranging from 1.5lbs to 2.5lbs. Best fly hatches were Buzzer, , various Sedges including Murrough. Anglers should confine fishing to late evening for the best chance of fish.

Lough O'Flynn

Week Ending  Sunday July 13th, 2003

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board Ballinlough Office reports

All anglers are continuing to catch fish on O'Flynn. Best reports to the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board Angling Section was from Anthony Baggot, Castlerea, who had 9 fish for three short evenings on Silver Invicta and Dabblers. Sean Murphy and Sean Mc Grath from Strokestown had 4 fish for one short evening. Michael Mc Kiernan from Athlone had 3 fish and lost 4 for an afternoons fishing, on Claret Dabbler. There is prolific fly life on the lake, with hatches of mayfly and various sedges observed.  With trout starting to go off the perch fry, anglers should concentrate on late evening sedge fishing for best results over the coming weeks.

ShRFB reports for the Camcor and Little Brosna River

Croneen and occasional grilse are moving into the Little Brosna and Camcor River in Birr, a few fish were reported caught over the past week. Also a few grilse are moving through the Shannon at Shaughnessy's weir Meelick, heading upstream

MID SHANNON AREA

ShRFB Reports for Mullingar Lakes Lough Owel and Ennell 

Lough Owel: There was very little angling activity or fish reported for the past week. We await the Peter season in anticipation.

Lough Ennell: It was a very quiet week, with little action to report

 

LOWER SHANNON AREA

There were only a few fish reported from the Castleconnell Salmon beats over the weekend.

 

John Vaughan ANGLERS REST Tel: 065 7071069 Email:  johnvfishing@eircom.net reports for Lickeen Lake, Co Clare.

Fishing on Lickeen is good at the moment.

Last Sunday was a very good day.  Last week, a  French man returned 8 brown trout varying from 1 lb. to 2 lbs in weight.

It's good early morning with a lull in the afternoon improving again for the late evening and night rise.

NB: We will have no weekly fishing report for the next couple of weeks, we will return in August to resume our update
