Member Day Trip: Visit Chicago Oases
October 1 & 2
Creative garden designs and interactive learning programs regularly reinvent Chicagos natural beauty. Join Joan Arenberg on Wednesday, October 1, or Thursday, October 2, for a day trip visiting Chinatown, the banks of the Chicago River and Lincoln Park Zoo, where inventive ideas have transformed familiar landscapes.
Begin at Chinatowns Ping Tom Park, a former railway site developed into several Chinese-influenced landscapes including a bamboo and childrens garden. Enjoy a walk along the Chicago River to view the $200 million restoration of Wacker Drive before lunch at Bob Chinns Crab House. Then tour the zoos new Regenstein African Journey, a natural habitat designed for large mammals and crocodiles, and the newly reopened Farm-in-the-Zoo, where exhibits encourage visitors to learn by doing.
Each day trip includes lunch and bus transportation to and from the Garden; the cost is $67 for members and $72 for member guests. As of August 27, reservations may be made weekdays at (847) 835-8375, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; please specify the date you would like to participate.
