Afghanistan Uses Reconstruction Trust Fund to Address Priorities
August 6, 2003

The World Bank, as administrator of the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund, signed agreements this week for three new projects designed to help new projects to help improve the country's telecommunications system; repair roads and drainage systems, and provide credit and other financial services to low-income people.

U.S. Proposes $1 Billion Aid Package
July 28, 2003

The Bush Administration will soon propose a $1 billion package to accelerate reconstruction activities in Afghanistan. This will fund infrastructure projects such as highway and school construction, as well as police training and programs to help women enter the workforce.

Afghanistan Joins World Bank's MIGA
July 3, 2003

Afghanistan took the final step to secure its membership in the Mulitlateral Investment Guarantee Agency, an important move for economic progress. MIGA provides politcial risk insurance for investments going into and out of Afghanistan and is in the process of setting up a guarantee trust fund for Afghanistan.

World Bank Approves Financing for Rural Employment and Public Administration Projects
June 25, 2003

On June 24, the World Bank approved $39.2 million in funding for a Rural Roads Access Project as part of the National Emergency Employment Program, as well as an $8.4 million grant for the ongoing Emergency Public Administration Project.
