RESOURCES FOR ADVISERS

ECA/A/S/A commissions and/or funds the production of specialized professional development and other materials specifically for international education administrators and educational advisers. These are provided at no cost to educational information/advising centers.

With funding from ECA/A/S/A, Peterson's, a division of Thomson Learning, has developed a web page that links advisers directly to Peterson's Grad Search and other useful advising tools: http://www.petersons.com/educationusa.

The Advising Quarterly professional journal, in print and on the web, is published by America-Mideast Educational and Training Services (AMIDEAST) and features resource reviews, answers to research questions, short-term training listings, news from overseas advisors, and US academic updates.

Advising for Study in the United States: A Manual for Educational Advising Professionals, published jointly by the College Board and USIA in 1998, is a comprehensive resource for operating an advising center. Additional copies are available through ECA/A/S/A.

Open Doors, an annual report on international educational exchange published by the Institute of International Education, is available in print format with additional tables available electronically. Here you can find information on international students and scholars pursuing educational opportunities in the U.S. and how many US students study abroad

If You Want To Study in the United States is a newly-updated four-part series available here in electronic form, in text or .pdf format. The series includes:

(1) Undergraduate Study

(2) Graduate and Professional Study and Research

(3) Short-Term Study, English Language Programs, Distance Education and Accreditation

(4) Getting Ready to Go - Practical Information for Studying and Living in the United States

Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the series are also available to educational advisers in booklet form through the Public Affairs Section of the embassy. Part 4 is available as a web document only. Also available for purchase through the embassy are related brochures and posters.

The Directory of Overseas Educational Advising Centers lists contact information for education information/advising centers around the world. College Board requests address updates directly from advising centers. Changes in address or other contact information should also be sent directly to ECA/A/S/A.
