The Role of the Information Systems Section
is responsible for Department-wide management and coordination
of computer and telecommunications activities. This section handles
development, operation, and maintenance of the Health & Social Services
Wide Area Network which connects almost thirty Local Area Networks
to the rest of the State and the Internet. It oversees security,
State mainframe access for the Department, and Departmental policy
and procedures, and works closely with vendors concerning procurement
of Data Processing and Telecommunications equipment. Lastly, it
represents the Department as liaison to the Department of Administration's
Computer and Telecommunications organizations.
