The stadium stands on the summit of Montjuic, a large hill situated in the south-west of the city, overlooking the harbour. It was the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, the track and field competition for the 1992 Olympics. An Olympic museum and gallery (Galeria Olimpica) can be found under the south-east corner of the stadium.
