Phi Phi Island - Scuba Diving

Phi Phi Island is one of the world most popular diving destinations due to its breathtaking underwater paradise and its abundance of colorful corals and fish. There are several dive shops on the island, mostly clustering on Ton Sai Beach, the starting points for transportation and tours of the island. Most of popular diving destinations are on Phi Phi Le Island. Visitors can hire a boat to travel around these diving sites from Ton Sai Bay.

Shark Point (Hin Bida) is a meeting spot of Leopard sharks and Nurse & Reef sharks, situated some 8 kilometers southeast of Phi Phi Le. It is a favored spot for Whale sharks around February and March. The dive site is 60 to 70 minutes from Ton Sai Bay.

Koh Pida Nok possesses hard and soft coral of various colors as well as lots of marine life. Sightings include Leopard sharks, turtles, moray eels and ghost pipe fish. This site is preferable to all levels of diver. The site stands 50 minutes from Ton Sai.

Koh Pida Nai stands just a few hundred meters away from Pida Nok. The island possesses the distinctive underwater world; large fallen rock have created many swim-through and submerged island, providing an ideal habitat for marine life and a fascinating site for diving.

Maya Bay, with a maximum depth of 18 meters, offers a plenty of marine life and rocks for diving. Maya Bay is a great destination of the inexperienced divers. Heading out of the bay, the underwater landscape become the large caves with the depth of more than 30 meters. The fallen rocks have left channels with the rocks towering above you on both sides, creating a striking dive; this area is suitable for the more advanced diver due to its depth. To reach the site, take a -15-20-minute-boat-ride.

Hin Dot (Chimney Rocks) submerges on Phi Phi Don's southern headlands, famous for the large schools of fish. The population of fish around here includes groupers, puffer fish, lionfish, squid and bearded scorpion fish.

Garang Heng is another dive site for seeing sharks if you are unlucky at the Shark Point. Garang Heng offers the abundant anemones and soft corals.

King Cruiser Wreck recently became one of the most popular diving destinations of Phi Phi Island when she sank on the 4th May 1997. King Cruiser was a comfortable catamaran-hull passenger-cruiser with 4 decks. The wreck creates an easy dive due to its large openings that allow easy access to the spacious interior. King Cruiser wreck also became the new habitat for various marine lives.

Hin Pae is a relatively shallow dive site, 10-15 meters deep, making it a good place for snorkeling. Hin Pae is also called Baby Shark Point because even snorkellers have the opportunity to see different types of sharks. This site is teemed with boulder and brain corals; soft and hard corals provide the shelter for a various kinds of fish. Crabs, lobster, angelfish, groupers, snappers and surgeonfish are also abundant here. It requires a-ten-minute-boat-ride from Ton Sai Bay.
