A wellness program that cultivates a healthy body, mind and spirit
naturally.
Bring Your Heart to the Garden is a wellness program designed to teach heart-healthy living. This four-week series of classes, with two sessions per week, will have you walking, cooking and relaxing in the beautiful surroundings of the Chicago Botanic Garden.
The program includes:
- Guided fitness walks every session
- A "hands-on" food preparation segment using fresh ingredients from the garden
- Samples of recipes prepared by guest chefs
- Stress management activities each week using both familiar and novel techniques
- Introduction to yoga and tai chi
- Guest lectures by heart and health experts
- A comprehensive notebook of lecture notes, recipes, tips and articles
- "Take-home" herb plants and flavored oils
Each week participants attend a weekday two-hour small-group session conducted in the Enabling Garden and a two-hour large-group session on Saturday that includs a heart-healthy cooking demonstration at the Fruit & Vegetable Garden open-air kitchen.
Bring Your Heart to the Garden program content has been developed by exercise physiology, nutrition and horticultural therapy experts with encouragement from Dr. George Gubernikoff, Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program at Northwestern University Medical School.
$120 for members; $145 for nonmembers
In the case of inclement weather, class will be held under outdoor shelter.
