Program UpdatesWorld Learning Awarded NGO-Strengthening Project in RomaniaWorld Learning recently received a two-year cooperative agreement to implement the NGO Partnerships Umbrella Grant Program in Romania, awarded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This $2 million project is designed to strengthen Romania's civil society organizations by fostering partnerships between U.S. and Romanian NGOs with shared interests in health, child welfare, environment, local government, energy efficiency, democracy, and private sector development. Through its offices in Washington, D.C., and Bucharest, World Learning will facilitate partnerships by identifying qualified organizations and bring them together through introductions, publicity, and outreach. Organizations that agree to develop partnerships may submit grant proposals to fund program implementation. Organizations with existing partners may take part in an open and transparent grants competition, conducted by World Learning, to receive limited funding for joint service delivery programs. Launching or strengthening as many as fifteen U.S.-Romanian partnerships, the project will help partners develop mutual trust and strategies for ongoing collaboration, and ensure that their joint efforts continue beyond Romania's graduation from USAID programming. World Learning's long and successful record of accomplishment in Romania includes its recent Democracy Network Project and current U.S. and in-country training activities administered under the Global Training for Development (GTD) TRANSIT indefinite quantity contract. World Learning's understanding of the Romanian NGO community, as well as its network of key contacts within Romania, will contribute significantly to outreach and recruitment efforts, while its broad reach in the U.S. NGO community will facilitate the identification of potential U.S. partners. |
