The Similan
Islands, a marine national park, consist of
9 limestone islands and are located 90 kilometers
northwest of Phuket.
This destination is listed in the top
ten diving spots
in the world, but also offers tremendous fishing
for all species in the Andaman Sea.
The relatively
shallow water close to the islands is home
to Sailfish,
Wahoo,
King Mackerel,
Barracuda,
Giant
Trevally, Blue
Finned Trevally, Golden Trevally,
Dorado,
Queenfish,
Rainbow
Runner, Cobia,
several species of Tuna and juvenile Marlin.
The seamount,
25 kilometers west of the islands, is known
as the hunting grounds for big Marlin,
Sailfish,
Wahoo,
Yellowfin
Tuna, Dogtooth
Tuna and Sharks.
It is also
in this area the Phuket record in
Black
Marlin (508 lbs) was caught by MV Andaman
Hooker.
This is
a trip that gives you a fantastic opportunity to
combine your dream of big fish with swimming/snorkeling
or even diving* in crystal clear water filled with
tropical fish and beautiful corals.
The evening can be
spent with a barbecue on one of
the many white powdery beaches, or bottom fishing
over a reef for some of the superb table fish
the area has to offer.
If you are a Hard Core angler,
The Similan
Islands
has some of the best Shark fishing in the region.
Massive Tiger
Sharks, Hammerhead
Sharks, Mako
Sharks
and Whaler Sharks (reef sharks) are considered normal
but other species are also found.
Thai Fishing
Guide offers multi-day trips to the
Similan
Islands during the months of November through April.
The trips vary from 3 days/2 nights to
6 days/5 nights
and are recommended for 4 persons with a maximum
of 5. MV Dorado can accommodate
6 persons
with a maximum of 8.
An adventure safari while on a 4 day/3
night trip or longer
to this destination can include a stop at Ko Ta Chai,
a remote island 50 km north of the Similans,
close to the
Burmese border. Popper
casting or fly fishing for
Giant
Trevally, bottom fishing for Grouper
and slow trolling
or casting for Sailfish
are only some of the things
that these pristine waters have to offer.
Please note that fly fishing equipment
is not
provided and you should therefore
bring along your own equipment and flies.
Thai Fishing Guide,
as a member of The Billfish Foundation,
strongly encourages
the practice of Catch and Release
of Marlin, Sailfish and Sharks.
Note: Should you have any special requests
(dietary,
special equipment, etc.) kindly e-mail us prior to your charter.
We will do our best to grant your requests.
