The Swiss mountain resort of Santis has been experiencing some very wintry weather with heavy snow and low temperatures. The equivalent of 53mm of rain has fallen in the 18 hour period ending at 1200 GMT Wednesday, with the temperature falling to -8.7C. The October average rainfall for Santis is 188mm with the average minimum temperature -2.8C.

A heatwave has recently been affecting Southern Saskachewan, Manitoba and North Dakota with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. Emerson situated south of Winnipeg near the Canada US border recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6 Deg Celsius on Tuesday. This over 18 degrees above the October 12 deg C average maximum.
