The Role of the Budget Section
The budget section provides advisory and technical support on the
operating budget to the department, as well as management guidance
and analysis to the Commissioner’s Office.
The section is staffed with five budget analysts and is responsible
for departmental policy, procedures, processing, training and controls
relating to the operating budget and ensuring compliance with state
laws and other procedures. Additionally, it is responsible for analyzing,
monitoring, and managing the Department’s annual operating budget,
including budget amendments, revised programs, supplemental budgets,
legislative budget requests, Alaska Mental Health Trust budget requests
and reporting, and fiscal notes.
The FY2002 operating budget for the department is approximately
$1.2 billion and includes over 2,000 positions.
