River Kwai Pandaw Cruise (Upstream)

Introduction

The first inland cruise ship in Thailand, the Kwai Pandaw will explore deep into the forests and jungles of this mountainous region maintaining our tradition of 'Pandaw Cruising' in great comfort and some style

The River Kwai Pandaw carries a maximum of 20 passengers in 10 teakwood cabins (single deck) and operates on a 7 days / 6 nights year round program every Monday on upstream and downstream programs alternatively.

The River Kwai Pandaw opens up an entirely new area for river tourism in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Samut Songkram provinces west of Bangkok. Every morning and afternoon land excursions are offered to visit attractions along the river including local markets, boat-builders, temples historic sites, Khmers ruins, waterfalls, war cemeteries, hot springs, the bridge on the River Kwai and local attractions

 

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Samut Songkram - Bang Pong (L/D)
11h30 embark aboard The RV Kwai Pandaw and cruise along the Mae Klong River. Short stop is to visit a local boar yard where craftsmen build the wooden boats used for domestic trade. Lunch on board. Visit a local pottery workshop in Ratchaburi. Jars of all sizes piled up along the riverbank awaiting collection on barges are typical sight. Also visit Nang Yai Wat Khanorn, which has the most complete collection of engraved Nang Yai (shadow puppets) in Thailand. Return to the boat for dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Ban Pong - Mae Klong Dam (B/L/D)
Breakfast onboard. Depart upstream via Tha Maka to Ban Tha Rua. Visit a glass noodle factory and observe the production processes. Proceed by coach to Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang. The ancient Buddhist temple houses a sacred stone and Buddha's footprint. Return to the boat for lunch. Continue cruise upstream to Tha Muang and the Watergate of Mae Klong Dam. Visit to Khao Noi Cave Temple (Wat Tham Khao Noi). The monastery was constructed on a hill, decorated in the form of Chinese architecture and culture art. Also visit the nearby Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua) and Wat Ban Cave (Wat Ban Tham). Late afternoon, return to the boat for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Mae Klong Dam - Kanchanaburi (B/L/D)
Breakfast on board. Visit to the world-famous bridge over the River Kwai and continue by boat to the JEATH War Museum. After lu8nch on board the Pandaw Kwai, visit to Chongkai War Cemetery on the north bank of River Kwai Noi. The peaceful graveyard in a landscape riverside setting is the final resting-place of 1750 Allied prisoners of war. Continue by coach to visit Somdet Phra Sri Nakharin Park, which is scattered with stones of different sizes and shapes, similar to animals. Late afternoon, return to the boat for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Kanchanaburi - Sai Yok (B/L/D)
Breakfast on board. Depart by coach to visit Ban Kao National Museum, where a large number of prehistoric skeletons, pottery, stone tools and ornaments are exhibited (closed Monday, Tuesday and public holidays). Continue by coach to "Prasat Muang Singh" Lopburi period, some 700-800 years ago. Continue by coach to Tha Kilen Train Station and take a 3rd class train to Tham Krasae passing over the long wooden viaduct. Arrive at Tham Krasae and visit Krasae Cave. Return to the boat for lunch and proceed to Sai Yok Elephant Village located right on the river bank.

(Optional: Enjoy half an hour elephant riding through the jungle and along the River Kwai Noi. Extra cost 8.- US$ per persons).

Return to the boat for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Sai Yok - Sai Yok Yai (B/L/D)
Breakfast on board. Walk uphill to visit Kaeng lava Cave. The stalactites and stalagmites are a spectacular creation by nature. Lunch on board. Continue from River Kwai Resotel pier by coach to Hell Fires Pass, a part of the Death Railway, cut through the Stone Mountain. Afternoon, we return to the boat for dinner and stay overnight.

Day 6: Sai Yok Yai - Ban Hin Dad (B/L/D)
Breakfast on board. Visit to Pha Tad Waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kanchanaburi Province. Visit Hin Dad Hot Spring. The mineral in the spring is believed to cure many diseases, e.g. beriberi (lack of vitamin B), arthritis, etc. Return to the boat for lunch, the remainder of the day is at leisure. "Farewell Dinner" and stay overnight on board.

Day 7: Ban Hin Dad - Disembarkation (B)
Early morning offering food to monks (make merit in Buddhist style). 08h30 breakfast on board 10h00 disembark the "Pandaw Kwai.
